  • Sustainable Health                                                                                                                                                                                                    As the Western world is approaching a pandemic in obesity and stress-related illnesses, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, good health is something we take for granted. Most of us focus on our health, when we are ill or have had a major catastrophe in our lives, when it simply might be too late.
  • Sustainable health—a call to action                                                                                                                                                                           Sustainable health, a multisectoral area for study, research, and practice towards improving health and well-being for all while staying within planetary boundaries, is a prerequisite to reaching the 2030 agenda and the work and journey towards a world in which everyone, everywhere can live a healthy and fulfilled life.
  • Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages                                                                                                                     Great strides have been made in improving people’s health in recent years. 146 out of 200 countries or areas have already met or are on track to meet the SDG target on under-5 mortality. Effective HIV treatment has cut global AIDS-related deaths by 52 percent since 2010 and at least one neglected tropical disease has been eliminated in 47 countries.
  • Lifelong Health                                                                                                                                                                                                    Health in the earliest years — beginning with the future mother’s well-being before she becomes pregnant — strengthens developing biological systems that enable children to thrive and grow up to be healthy adults. Positive early experiences provide children with a foundation for building sturdy brain architecture, which supports a broad range of skills and learning capacities throughout the lifespan.

  • The foundations of lifelong health are Built in early childhood                                                                                                                             A vital and productive society with a prosperous and sustainable future is built on a foundation of healthychild development. Health in the earliest years—actually beginning with the future mother’s health before she becomes pregnant—lays the groundwork for a lifetime of well-being. When developing biological systems are strengthened by positive early experiences, healthy children are more likely to grow into healthy adults. Sound health also provides a foundation for the construction of sturdy brain architecture and the associated achievement of a broad range of abilities and learning capacities.health in the earliest years—actually beginning with the future mother’s health before she becomes pregnant—lays the groundwork for a lifetime of well-being.2Center on the Developing Child at Harvard Universitywww.DEVELOPINGCHILD.HARVARD.EDU
